National Oceanographic Data Centre of Portugal (NODC-PT)
The Portuguese Institute for the Sea and Atmosphere and the Portuguese Hydrographic Institute join forces to implement the National Oceanographic Data Centre of Portugal.

The National Oceanographic Data Centre of Portugal (NODC-PT) is a node of the International Oceanographic Data and Information Exchange (IODE) program, a collaborative effort to preserve and reuse oceanic data, which are often irreplaceable and unique.

As of November 2022, the Portuguese Institute for the Sea and Atmosphere, I.P. (IPMA) and the Portuguese Hydrographic Institute (IH), supported by the Portuguese Committee for the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission, have agreed to a joint effort to implement the Portuguese NODC. The mission of NODC-PT is to provide a national marine data management system by compiling and facilitating access to these data. This system includes identifying protocols, standards, and best practices for the collection, quality control, processing, information extraction, dissemination, and preservation of data produced by national organizations.
NODC-PT, as a national network for access to marine data of the Portuguese sea and a network that connects partners involved in marine data management, will promote the principle of “collect once, use many times” and provide the Portuguese Community with an efficient system for compiling and facilitating access to existing marine data through a common framework of national oceanographic management procedures.

NODC-PT contributes to the challenge of “Create a Digital Representation of the Ocean” and thus aims to help achieve the ocean we all desire. It has been recognized by the IOC/UNESCO as a support action for the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development 2021-2030.

NODC-PT welcomes all those who wish to contribute to building a more sustainable and resilient ocean, opening its doors for fruitful collaboration committed to the oceanic cause.
